Ending Homelessness in the Fox Valley

Growing People

Residents, volunteers, staff, donors and board members built the men’s facility hoop house in September of 2011 for the COTS community. Audrey Hepburn said, “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” They banded together, pledged their efforts because they believe in ours. Th mutual faith and support is what makes the COTS family continue to grow stronger.

Residents have already been able to harvest a variety of items this year. The hoop house will have a lot more to offer throughout the summer. Cucumbers, tomatoes, kohlrabi; the list goes on, and so do the benefits.
The hoop house has come to mean a lot to many residents over the years. It offers an opportunity for our residents to gain work skills and a tranquil environment to cultivate healthy experiences. The hoop house’s need for constant maintenance is a perfect metaphor for the goals and struggles of the people in the COTS community. At times, it may seem like the work is endless and without vigilance weeds and pests will undermine your efforts.  However, with determination, hard work and commitment, all the toil, time and effort that goes into the dirt will in time sprout something wholly new and beautiful.
